Travel Medical
Assistance
Helping travellers get the prompt medical attention they need in the event of a medical emergency or daily illness.
When you’re planning a business trip, the last thing you want is for your travellers to get sick or hurt whilst away from home. But if they are travelling to a country outside of their own, it’s important to be prepared for the worst. As a travel manager, it is in your duty of care to protect business travellers from your corporation.
Fortunately, we have over 30 years’ experience providing medical assistance services to travel managers. It can be intimidating trying to get care for your travellers whilst they’re abroad, but we will help to streamline their medical care at the most suitable facility.
If necessary, our network of medical specialists, medical professionals and hospitals around the world, will also help your travellers to evacuate to a facility with more advanced medical care to ensure the right care, at the right time, at the right facility.
24/7 Travel Medical Assistance and Monitoring
When you call World Travel Protection, you’ll be put in touch with someone from our medical team. These registered nurses, paramedics and medical specialists aren’t only equipped to help provide medical assistance over the phone, they also help travellers access the best medical care wherever they are in the world.
This helps reduce stress for those in need, and also helps travel managers reduce potential risk for their travellers. Our medical team with their diverse specialities have a deep understanding of the treatment being offered to our clients and continue to monitor their medical condition even after they are admitted to our partner facilities.

“Medical facilities available to travellers can vary greatly across the globe,” explains WTP Regional Chief Medical Officer – Asia Pacific, Dr Neil Slabbert. “At World Travel Protection, we have built relationships with a diverse range of medical specialists and hospitals around the world to ensure our clients receive the best care and treatment, at the right time, wherever they are.”
We can also help with medication refills, medical devices, eyewear or corrective lenses, dental referrals, assistance with transfer of insurance information and medical records and more.

Emergency Medical Evacuations
We arrange and monitor both commercial repatriations by airliner and urgent evacuations by air ambulance, both fixed wing and rotary wing.
Organising any medical transportation is dependent on the customer’s location, end destination and their clinical condition.
While serious medical emergencies typically require an air ambulance, medical repatriations can also take place on a commercial flight which involve a medical escort.
We utilise air ambulance evacuations to move customers to the nearest centre of medical excellence for appropriate care and treatment, or where the terrain or distance is not suitable for a ground ambulance, or if a customer would not be fit to fly commercially. Some medical conditions prevent a customer travelling on a commercial aircraft, necessitating the use of an air ambulance.

World Travel Protection strives to get the right care at the right time and place, for the customer.
Urgent evacuations occur due to the serious nature of the customer’s medical condition and/or their location, and need to be arranged within the shortest time frame possible.
Repatriations on commercial flights with a medical escort require a longer time frame to organise, often several days. They are complex and challenging due to airline seat availability, logistics, medical clearance by the airline and appropriate hospital admission or follow-up care arrangements being made in the country of residence.
Our Preventative Approach to Medical Assistance Services

Individual Traveller Assessments
To help manage travel risks, we take into consideration the endemic health risks of the location our travellers are visiting, identify the medical infrastructure and services available to them in that country or area. This helps our team provide customised travel risk management solutions when and if they’re needed.
In doing so, a traveller may be encouraged to prepare for the trip by visiting their local GP to discuss immunisations and additional medication that might be required. We want you to be as prepared as possible for any foreseeable travel disruptors.

Our Travel Assist App
The pre-trip advisory tools available via our World Travel Protection Travel Assist App are pushed to our travelling personnel via in-app alert notifications, helping them prepare for their trip. Learning about a destination before arrival helps mitigate risks, minimising the likelihood of medical or travel emergencies occurring.
Preventing risks can support:
- Increased travelling population wellbeing including mental health
- Increased productivity
- Increased duty of care
